WhatsApp rolls out private mentions, likes and reshare in Status

WhatsApp has introduced new interactive features for its Status function, including private mentions, status likes, and reshare capabilities. These updates aim to make Status a more personal and engaging way for users to connect with friends and family on the platform.

Table of Contents

1. Private Mentions 🏷️

With private mentions, users can now tag specific contacts in their Status updates. Unlike public tags, these mentions are private, meaning only the tagged person receives a notification. This tagged user can then choose to reshare the mentioned Status on their own feed if they wish. Importantly, the mention remains hidden from others who view the Status, ensuring that the interaction remains discreet and private.

2. Status Likes ❤️

WhatsApp now enables users to like Status updates directly by tapping a heart icon, a feature similar to Instagram Stories. These likes are also private; only the person who posted the Status can see them, as they appear in the viewer list. This feature offers a quick and subtle way to acknowledge someone’s update without the need for direct replies, making it ideal for situations where users want to show support or appreciation.

3. Reshare Status 🔄

In addition to private mentions and likes, WhatsApp now allows resharing of Status updates in which users are tagged. If you’re mentioned in a friend’s Status, you have the option to repost it to your own Status, promoting a more connected and dynamic way to share updates across friends and family.

Why These Features Matter

These additions reflect WhatsApp’s growing focus on making Status a more interactive and personalized experience. Following Meta’s approach with Instagram, WhatsApp’s new features add layers of functionality that support private and semi-private interactions, especially for users who value discretion. This move also aligns WhatsApp more closely with social media trends, blending messaging with social sharing elements to keep users engaged.

This rollout is available globally, meaning Android and iOS users should start seeing these features with the latest app updates. Overall, WhatsApp’s updates demonstrate its commitment to evolving the platform’s communication tools, providing users with more options to share, interact, and connect through Status
